When using the No dataplan solution or if at the end you'd like to use your own SIM card, you can configure the device to use a specific APN, through SMS text messaging.

For such configuration step it is mandatory to use a SIM card with SMS text messages activated:

1. reception capabilities, at the least,
2. sending capabilities, is good to get device commands results sent by the device.

Again during the SMS process it is mandatory to use a SIM card with SMS capabilities enabled, this in order to allow the device to receive the instructions.

1. Please keep note of the SIM cellular number.
2. Install this SIM card in the device.
3. Then send a SMS text message to the noted cell number, below an example of what you have to send :
4. set,modem.cnfapn,YOUR_APN#
   Make sure to replace YOUR_APN by your final Simcard apn, the one the device will use forever. It is case sensitive.
5. Make sure the device is up and running and not sleeping, please see power management section for LED description.
6. Wait a little and you should¹ receive in reply such a text message:
   CNF:set:modem.cnfapn=YOUR_APN#
   This means that the device has acknowledged the apn you just set,
   

Now you can insert the final simcard into the device, the modem is properly set.

If your apn provider needs a user and a password authentication, you have to send such a list of SMS:

1. set,modem.cnfapnlogin,YOUR_APN_LOGIN#
2. set,modem.cnfapnpass,YOUR_APN_PASSWORD#

Depending if the inserted SIMcard has SMS sending capabilities enabled you will receive an acknowledge.
